DeepStar Six (1989) Review
DeepStar Six (1989) synopsis: “A team of navy personnel stationed at a temporary base at the bottom of the ocean and tasked with setting up nuclear missiles discovers a huge underwater cavern which houses a giant prehistoric creature.”
Starring: Greg Evigan, Nancy Everhard, Taurean Blacque, and Miguel Ferrer
Director: Sean S. Cunningham
1989 was an interesting year. Four underwater themed movies came out over the course of those twelve months (including James Cameron’s The Abyss) and not one of them was successful. In fact, DeepStar Six was the only one to make its budget back! Granted, it cost the least to make at $8mil (compared to Leviathan’s $25mil and The Abyss at $75mil… we don’t have numbers on Lords of the Deep) but it’s still an accolade for Sean S. Cunningham and his incredible team!
So, does that mean DeepStar Six was the best of the bunch? Well, not necessarily, but it is better than Leviathan (according to co-host Corey)! BOOM! shots fired lol… let the DeepStar Six vs Leviathan war begin!!
